Are home improvement shows telling the truth?
On shows like Flip This House, They always seem to be able to renovate a whole house kitchen, baths, landscaping etc WITH contractors for like 25k yet when I want to replace cabinets and countertop in my kitchen its 20k.....Do you think they are lying about their budgets

- Either you are wanting extremely high quality fixtures, or you live in an area where costs/prices are above the national norm. It pays to shop around. Always check credentials and insurance. Doing it yourself can be fun and save you a lot of money. (which you will spend on tools) The money spent in those shows are the result of several professionals shopping around for the best prices. $22K seems to be an average price for a kitchen rehab. by a professional. Good luck.
- No, I don't think they are lying, just using average quality products. I have seen some things done that I would not do on some of these shows.
- They are buying the materials at "contractor" price, which is much lower than what you can buy for. And, I'm sure they are using lower quality products and probably getting a huge discount for the "free advertising" the program gets the contractors.
- Your budget does seem rather high. I have found it to be much less expensive to renovate a kitchen or bath. I do not feel these shows are doing anything wrong.
