- I am a landscape contractor who installs ponds. Start by getting your landscape contractors license, insurance. Chances are you will have to take a test to get the license. Then start advertising all over your part of Michigan. You have a tough job ahead of you with Michigan's economy right now.

That would be suicide in this economy, if you don't already have a repulation and/or examples of your work. You could also look for a job installing ponds for an established business and learn on the job. Then when you are GOOD at building them, it will be much easier for you to get a business started. There is a third way, you could spend a couple weeks and become a "certified aquascapes contractor" and use their massive self-promotion machine to build poorly designed ponds. It is a very popular method for peope who build low quality cheap ponds. After you quickly grow out of the aquascapes method, you will start looking around for people who actually build good ponds and start using their methods. That is just what I have heard from several people who have been through their mega marketing system.
