List of small business owners and/or licensed contractors? I had an interview with an insurance company and part of the hiring process is to do a "project 200" which consists of finding 200 names of prospects etc. Where would I go to get a list of small business owners and licensed contractors such as construction, electricians, plumbers etc. I need a list that would supply phone numbers and contact names?

Who needs to be licensed contractors? My husband and I are starting a business building a specific thing for a room in your home. We are just starting and not even sure if it is going to take off. What are some of the differences between a licensed contractor and a non-licensed contractor? I am looking for a contractor to renovate and update my old house. I have already received 4 job bids ranging from $9,000 to $15,000 from both licensed and non-licensed contractors. The project does not affect the structural or changing the floor plan of the house, but the work does include replacing exiting kitchen cabinets and appliances, replacing existing tiled shower stalls, replacing vinyl floors with ceramic tiled floors in kitchen and baths areas, replacing plumbing and electrical fixtures that includes light electrical and plumbing work such as adding a light switch and adding a dishwasher. A friend has told me that non-licensed contractors can only bid on jobs costing less than $1,000 where as licensed contractors are bonded and able to legally bid on jobs costing more than $1,000. Does anyone know the facts between a licensed and non-licensed contractor besides the fact that one has and one does not have a license? Thank you.
Can a person get a contractors bond if he is not licensed? I have a judgement against a contractor who has a NEW bond. He has no license though. I'm trying to collect from the bonding company. But they say the claim occurred before they issued the bond. I think he shouldn't have been issued the bond in the first place.
Do I need a contractors License for Installation work that is not permanently attached to a structure? I have a company that produces Laser Etched art work on Granite. My question is, do I need to be a licensed contractor in the state of California when I do instalations? We Virtuallly always we use z-clips to mount our etchings to the wall. We are not permantly attached anywheres other then some screws into the studs. The cost would be generaly over $500 to install. (This of coarse includes travel etc.) The way I understand it is if your not permanantly attaching to the structure your not required to have a license. I wouldnt consider a screw a permanent attachment. Does anybody have any insight on this? Thanks
Do apartment complexes have to hire licensed contractors to repair AC units? Recently our apartment's AC unit went dead. The complex sent out a repair man, who said the unit needed a new compresseor. He installed it and it broke again. Now the repair man and complex said we broke it on purpose, so they put in a new compressor and locked the AC. Then the AC broke again... long story short, the repair man is installing the 4th compressor tomorrow, saying we broke all the others, our apartment complex says they're billing us $12,000 for the compressors ($3,000 each). I asked the repair man for his license # and he freaked out and the apartment complex says it's none of our business to know his license #, so clearly he doesn't have one. I know the repair man can get in trouble, but can the apartment complex get in trouble too?
Do you need a contractors license to start a window company in California? Ok so, my family owns window companies in Illinois. Window replacement, siding, roofs, doors, etc. Basically they have relationships with factories that they buy their products from and have 2 teams of installers who actuallly install the products. I live in southern california and wanted to open a division of the family business here. I have been doing a little research and I am finding that most window company owners have contractors license. Is this required? Is there a way around it if my installers are licensed? Anyone with knowledge in this area would be appreciated thanks! Just to clarify my question: Does the retail portion of sales need a contractors license? OBVIOUSLY the actual installers doing the work would be licensed.
Florida Licensed Contractors? I am looking to open an Interior Design business in the state of Florida. Licensed Contractors only........legal question, can you help? If you practice business without a builder's or contractor's license, what are the specific dangers? I heard that the customer doesn't legally HAVE to pay you, and a court would rule against you if you are unlicensed. Is this true? I know someone who has run a business for several years and it's successful and he's insured, he just doesn't see the immediate need to get his license, since it's not REQUIRED specifically. What are the real dangers for him?
Can a licensed contractor for construction hire someone to over see a construction project? Let's say person A has a general contractor license. Let's say person B works for person A. Let's say person B deals with the whole construction project, makes estimates, signs paperwork with landlord, apply for city permits... but person B does NOT have a contractor license. Is this legal? Can person A hire an employee to oversee all the operations for a major construction project? I guess what I am asking is. Is it legal for a licensed contractor to hire unlicensed contractor? If so, what can the unlicensed contractor actually do? Can he oversee the whole operation?

As a landlord do I have to be in the house when a licensed & bonded contractor is their? My tenant does not like workmen in his house without me there. So far the repairs have been small so not an issue. I now have to have the plumbing redone which will take 3-4 days while he is out of town and I am hiring a licensed/bonded contractor to do the work. He still wants me there and I can't because I work and I don't think I should have to be. Does anyone know if that is required of a landlord? I feel if he is that worried he can ask one of his friends to stay there.
